Happy Valentine's Day ♥

I feel like I have this endless affinity for love. I just love love. And I love holidays that celebrate love, even if they are completely over commercialized and make half the population want to either a) throw up everywhere, b) drink themselves into a coma, or c) sleep through the entire 24 hours (plus the 12 preceding and following) of v-day. But regardless, I don't care, because I love holidays and I especially love holidays filled with pink, hearts, and chocolate. I know I'm biased because I am in love but I can't help it. Plus Matt always gives me the best v-day cards :)

This year was a little bit of a downer, because we didn't get to spend actual Valentine's day together (hence why I am blogging while zillions of other lovey-dovey couples spend tons of money on overpriced romantic dinners and flowers). Actually, today was pretty awesome. I got chocolate, a Starbucks card, and Sprinkles at work, so I really shouldn't complain. Plus I got went on a great date with five of the coolest girls I know (thanks for making sure I wasn't feeling lonely guys....) and even got to sake bomb (they know the way to my heart). So overall, not the BEST valentine's day I've ever had, but definitely top 5 (Matt and I have only had 4 v-days together!!!).

Our actual Valentine's Day date was on Sunday night (well really I guess it was the whole weekend, because I flew down to spend it with my guy). So I guess I should tell you about my weekend... I got in really late on Friday night (it's not really worth saving $50 on a later-evening flight, because the anticipation was killing me!!) so Friday night was kind of a bust. But I got to hang out with Matt, so realistically...win-win. The next morning, we started off the day right with breakfast burritos from Fresh MXN; I swear if I could have a burrito soulmate, this would be it. This boy really knows how to make me smile. We spent most of Saturday hanging out with my best friend Amber and her new friend Ian (if you ever read this Ian, we are a huge fan). Let's just say we made up for lost time by hitting up 3 of SD's best breweries and catching up. Amber and I used to have ambermargaret days in high school, where our parents would call us in sick from school and we would spend the entire day watching movies, going to starbucks, and baking (yes our parents are awesome and yes we are awesome). This was like grown-up ambermargaret day with requested time off from work plus boys. Plus they even stuck around and went downtown with us. I gotta say, La Puerta is where it's at...we love this bar, especially when Matt's friend is working and offers us free tequila shots. Who could ever turn down free tequila? Overall, a great night with friends :)

On Sunday, Matt and I went to lunch with his roommate and pretty much spent the day in bed watching movies in his "cave" (which is actually just Matt's room with a blanket over the window). We watched 3!!!! movies that day. We did managed to squeeze in showers and got fancy for our Valentine's day date. He took me to this adorable Italian restaurant, La Dolce Vita. This place was so cute, very intimate and romantic and perfect for a regular date night or a off-day V-day. We loved it. Plus I'm pretty sure the waiters were ACTUALLY italian (surprise surprise).  Of course, Matt's dinner was better than mine (which it always is) but I am lucky enough that he always shares with me! We topped off our night by watching The Vow (Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum). You know how I know I'm a lucky girl? Because even though Matt thinks Channing Tatum is the worst actor in the entire world (who is completely void of dramatic acting abilities), this loving boyfriend let me pick the movie! He actually even remotely enjoyed it...I think. I couldn't have asked for a better V-day, or a better boyfriend (ever). He is simply the best. PS if you were wondering, we also watched Contagion and the Joneses.

I don't think we actually took a picture together on Valentine's Day :(

On Monday, he had to go to class, so I slept in (of course). Then he picked me up and we went to breakfast at The Mission; we'd never been there before, but this place totally blew my mind. I had this awesome tortilla-egg-potato-green sauce thing and it was incredible. For some odd reason, I seem to have a passion for mexican breakfasts. Matt got blueberry pancakes....sometimes I wonder if we could be more different. The food was delicious and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a place for breakfast in San Diego (they have three locations). Afterwards, we decided to go for a nice bike ride along Mission Beach because it was beautiful outside (and because bike rentals were only $5/hour). Weirdly enough, a few hours after our bike ride, it started pouring. We finished off my last few hours in San Diego by going to Basic Pizza with some friends for happy hour and going to Extraordinary Desserts (for V-day part 2!) Nothing quite says Valentine's Day like paying $15 for a piece of chocolate cake. But so incredibly worth it. Plus we had a "gift certificate" for $20 bucks to Extraordinary Desserts from Matt's parents (as part of my graduation present that we finally put to good use). Yay!! Did I mention I love chocolate?

1 pm, followed by 3pm. the difference of two hours..

Anyways, I got kind of sniffly (and by that I mean I was bawling) when Matt finally dropped me off. Even though we spent lots of time together for our V-day, it still kind of sucks that we weren't together, when everyone else in the world is out there celebrating being in love and being with the one they love. But on the bright side, at least I had some great friends on my side.

i love you matt ♥

Margaaareeta comes to San Diego!!

*This is our first dual post. We wanted to write about Valentine's Day together so Matt started the post (in black) and Margaret edited the post (in purple)!*

so, Margaret has already told you about our thursday so Ill skip right into friday.  the morning of friday was a very lazy one for us.  we went to sprinkles cupcakes for the first time ever and waited 35 minutes for the most awesome cupcakes in the entire world.  we tried the red velvet cupcake (their most famous) and the raspberry chocolate chip...which was only around for valentine's day.  we pretty much lounged around until we went to dinner.  we headed down to the yardhouse in downtown for some happy hour.  this happy hour is one of our favorites and we definitely recommend it to anyone.  plus, the atmosphere of the restaurant is really cool so that definitely adds to the overall experience.  plus we watched the lakers win!!!  after the yardhouse we went to the ucsd baseball game.  they put up lights this year so going to friday night games have been really good experiences.  it almost brings me back to the good ol' days of playing ball myself.   we also hung out with our friends, hilary and brad, afterwards.  hilary and i are in the same sorority, and brad is her boyfriend.  brad is a huge beer connoisseur, so he took us to his local bars, where matt got to try some of his favorite beers. overall, a really fun night.

what a nerd
saturday, we went to lunch with some old friends (mainly margaret's because I "remet" some of them that I've known for a couple years now haha) and had sushi at one of our favorite sushi places, sushi ki.  we had a lot of fun because we saw two of our really good friends, patrick and jeff, who have since moved to la.  and of course, miss danielle, my old roommate. I've missed that girl soooo much!  we did some other small things throughout the day but it was pretty mellow all around.  we finished the day by watching the movie Dear John.  channing tatum has got to be one of THE worst actors ever.  however, I will step out on a limb and say that this movie was not his worst.  but, I can surely say that I will not be buying it on bluray anytime soon.  and we made a fruit bowl. yum :)

sunday, we woke up and went to the 11 o'clock service at Flood church and that was really good.  church has been something that I have really been getting into and wanting to grow in and so it was really cool to share that with margaret.  I feel like we can grow more passionately towards each other if we share this desire of faith.  after church we went to mama testas with our friends hilary and brad to try out the fish tacos that gained fame when they defeated the famous bobby flay in a smackdown.  however, these tacos were definitely a disappointment.  in the end, we were simply glad that we had tried them.  we ended our sunday by going bowling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I find bowling to be extremely enjoyable because everyone sucks and so its an even playing field for all which opens up room for competition.  it was margaret, bryan, and myself who went and it was definitely cool to spend time with one of the roommates outside of the house.

this was on our table at mama testas

famous fish tacos

we had a stellar first round

monday.....hmmmm I cant remember monday really.  I feel like there was something important that went on the day....oh ya it was VALENTINES DAY!!!!!!!!  our day was awesome together.  it was especially awesome for the simple fact that we were together and sort of freestyled most of the day.  we made pancakes in the morning!!  we got costco hot dogs, sprinkles cupcakes, and finished the day with a picnic at la jolla shores and watched the sunset together. the weather was beautiful and so was the girl I got to spend the day with.  margaret got me some personalized gift certificates that I get to use whenever I want!  some of them include a back massage, a giants hat, and coldstone!  my gift was not completed but I must say that I am very excited about it.  and telling her it was a surprise only made it worse because she is very impatient when it comes to surprises haha.  so here's another clue margaret:  it will entail my abilities I have learned with technology mixed with the amenities of my school.  and I promise I will have it done by this week.  is it here yet?

more sprinkles!!!

tuesday was characterized by lucha libre (which has, hands down, the best burrito in the entire world!!!!!!) and my girl having to leave :(  however, we will see each other soon enough and I look forward to that dearly!!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY! ♥

♥ Happy Valentine's Day!!!! ♥

I hope everyone has a great day!

Matt and I have lots of fun stuff planned :) but you will have to wait until tomorrow to find out what we do (partially because I still think he has some surprises up his sleeve). But in the mean time, remember what we did last year for Valentine's Day? Hopefully this year I get a post in before March haha.

Not a Valentine's Day pic, but I thought it was appropriate.

Sprinkles....and Countdown to Valentine's Day: 3 days!

I didn't count down yesterday, but for good reason....I was busy running around getting ready to come to San Diego. And now, I'm here with Matt until Tuesday :) :). And today, for the first time in my entire life, we went to Sprinkles! And let me tell you, all those rumors you hear...about Sprinkles being the Michael Jordan of cupcakes....THEY ARE TRUE.

And because it's almost Valentine's Day, of course there was a long wait. But it was sooooo worth it.

Nothing says love like waiting in line with your girlfriend for cupcakes...for half an hour.
Thanks Matt my CUPCAKE :)

valentine's day

I know it's been a while since I last posted, and I'm really sorry. So let me update you on our lives. Matt and I celebrated our second valentine's day a few weeks ago. It was really special and low-key. It was a beautiful day in San Diego, so we decided to camp out on his front lawn and get some sun. We played skipbo on a blanket and listened to music. Afterwards, we decided to go watch the sunset at the Windansea beach. It was so beautiful! We made chocolate-covered strawberries and feasted on those while watching the sunset. Then he took me to this cute little flower stand and bought me these gorgeous tulips :) And we finished off the night at La Basil Thai, which I'm pretty sure is not Matt's favorite thai restaurant. The food was so yummy and we stopped at this little French cafe and picked up Matt's favorite dessert....cheesecake! It wasn't super extravagant, or super lavish, but it was perfect for us :)

Pictures are HERE!
